Chey is a photographer, writer, and visual artist whose work explores culture, connection, and memory by uncovering the ways communities carry their history. She is drawn to stories that illuminate the complexities of lived experiences, work that invites reflection, empathy, and a richer understanding of the lives we share.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Creative Writing and continues her studies at the graduate level. A literary foundation and background in graphic and user experience design inform a visual practice grounded in intention and a deep sensitivity to the spaces in-between.
Her photography journey, rooted in 35mm black-and-white film, began in 2008 and continues today across both film and digital formats, in color and black-and-white. She approaches her work with a quiet attentiveness to the ways people move through and interact with the world around them, and her documentary projects have brought her into the lives of Buddhist monks and military veterans—communities whose stories span the breadth of human experience.
Her most recent project follows Khmer classical dancers whose families came to the United States as refugees, and who now carry forward a tradition shaped by loss and strengthened through survival.
